CGT has published this report annually since 2005 which enables them to make year-to-year comparisons about how the industry is progressing toward universally accepted goals and what the overall "state of sales and marketing" is in the consumer goods arena. Although basic consumer needs haven't changed very much since 2005, the ways in which consumers solve their needs have become dramatically different. 

Shifts in bother consumer behavior and technological capabilities have changed those industry goals from, "How do we improve the way we do business today?" to the more alarming, "How do we transform the business for the future?"
