E2open is powered by a strong global network of problem solvers and innovators driven by strong values and our company culture. Together, we are focused on doing what’s right in business and our communities. Every month, we will shine a spotlight on an exceptional team member who is helping us transform the supply chain industry. This month, we held a Q&A with Heidi Roop, Logistics Manager at e2open.

Q: How long have you been working for e2open?

A: I have worked for e2open for 4.5 years.

Q: How did you get started in the supply chain industry?

A: Seeking new opportunities for long-term growth, I was drawn to e2open’s commitment to employee development. The company’s investment in its workforce resonated with my career aspirations, even more than the industry itself.

Q: What do you like the most about working for e2open?

A: I enjoy each day’s unpredictable challenges that require decisive thinking, problem-solving, and innovation while maintaining excellent customer service.

Q: How has your role evolved since you joined the team?

A: I’ve progressed from an entry-level position to a management role within my department, demonstrating consistent growth. My career philosophy centers on continuous learning, adaptability, and embracing professional development opportunities.

Q: What challenges have you faced in your career?

A: Not trusting my gut and seeking approval from others. With experience comes confidence. Each role’s unique obstacles foster growth. While some factors and personalities are beyond our control, every outcome is either a success or a learning opportunity.

Q: What are some of the most important lessons you’ve learned throughout your career?

A: While external circumstances are often beyond our control, we have full autonomy over our responses and how we internalize experiences. I believe in confronting challenges head-on, even when they seem daunting. As Yoda aptly put it, ‘Do or do not, there is no try.’ This philosophy guides my approach to professional growth and problem-solving.

Q: What’s your favorite way to unwind after a long day?

A: I love diving into our family’s daily adventures over dinner, trading stories and laughter as we unpack the day’s surprises. And just when we think the fun’s winding down, our four-legged furball bursts in, tail wagging like a helicopter, wanting to join the conversation.

Q: What hobby are you most passionate about?

A: I love photography, and taking pictures of nature, people, and freighters on Lake Michigan. I also enjoy collecting cookbooks and love handwritten recipes.

Q: What is a dream that you want to make true one day?

A: I have a keen interest in travel and experiencing the world around us. With my child now pursuing college, I am looking forward to dedicating more time to broaden my global perspective through travel.

Q: What’s the best trip you’ve been on and why?

A: My academic background includes a Bachelor of Science in Geology, which culminated in field camp studies in Colorado. This experience not only enhanced my technical skills but also provided invaluable exposure to diverse geological formations. The majestic Rocky Mountains left a lasting impression. The cross-country drive from Michigan to Colorado offered a unique opportunity to see the country.

Q: How do you like to structure your day?

A: I start the day before by reviewing my schedule for the next day, resolving any conflicts, and collecting anything necessary. For note-taking throughout the day, I have a OneNote system where notes, screenshots, and reports are logged and categorized.

Q: What tips or advice would you give someone starting their career in the supply chain industry?

A: Embrace the future’s possibilities—your ideal role may be just on the horizon. Strive for excellence in your field and cultivate a reputation for delivering results. By continuously developing your skills and maintaining a forward-thinking mindset, you will be prepared to seize emerging opportunities and excel in roles that may not even exist today.

Q: Describe a funny or unique experience you had.

A: I got married in a helicopter over Niagara Falls. It was an incredible adventure that continues to this day.

Q: Where did you grow up, and what brought you to your current city?

A: I am from the east side of Michigan in a town called Highland. I moved to West Michigan when I got engaged. I love living near Lake Michigan with its sand dunes and unparalleled sunsets.

The Big Reroute: Chinese Goods Stress Test Global Customs

Chinese exports are on the move, and global customs systems are feeling the strain. Countries like Germany, India, Brazil, and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) member states are absorbing redirected goods once destined for U.S. ports. The sharp surges in import volume are overwhelming customs authorities, igniting a spike in misclassifications, delays, and regulatory confusion. Amid rising risk, these inaccurate entries can leave companies exposed to penalties and unexpected enforcement. In some markets, Chinese imports have spiked by more than 40%. The shift, part of a broader redirection trend rather than isolated rerouting, is forcing companies to reexamine their trade compliance strategies in real time. Legacy systems and manual processes simply aren’t built for this level of scrutiny or scale. And the cost of getting it wrong is rising. Misclassifications now carry the risk of retroactive duties, fines, or even shipment seizures. For compliance ...
