This month, we held a Q&A with Aries Lam, Director, Product Development at e2open.

Q: What’s your current role at e2open, and how long have you been with the company?

A: I am responsible for R&D for the product called Supply Chain Collaboration (SCC). I am also the site leader of the Hong Kong office. I’ve been with e2open for 22 years, if you include my career at Amber Road, acquired in 2019 by e2open, and ecVision, acquired by Amber Road in 2015.

Q: What’s the most valuable skill you’ve developed in your time at e2open?

A: Working in such a large organization, the most valuable skills I developed are communicating and collaborating with a big team to get tasks done efficiently and effectively.

Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting in their career?

A: Spend time understanding what other teams are doing. Especially the ones you work closely with. This can help you complete your tasks faster and with better quality.

Q: In your experience, what are the biggest challenges supply chain leaders face today?

A: Maintaining agility in the supply chain to be able to respond to changing environments, including, but not limited to, economic, political, and environmental changes.

Q: What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of work?

A: Puzzles and mathematics.

Q: What was your dream job when you were a child?

A: Teacher or professor.

Q: What personal strengths have helped you most in your career?

A: Dedication to find the best solution to a problem.

Q: If you could have three wishes granted by a genie, what would they be?

A: World peace, good health for everyone, and for everyone to enjoy their life.

Q: Out of all the places you’ve been to, what is your favorite and why?

A: I really enjoyed my stay at Tromsø, Norway, where I was fascinated by the Aurora.

Q: What is your go-to drink, meal, and dessert choice?

A: Hong Kong style milk tea, steamed lobster in Legal Sea Foods, and carrot cake from the Cheesecake Factory.
