Employee Spotlight
E2open is powered by a strong global network of problem solvers and innovators driven by strong values and our company culture. Together, we are focused on doing what’s right in business and our communities. Every month, we will shine a spotlight on an exceptional team member who is helping us transform the supply chain industry. This month, we held a Q&A with Pablo Ampuero, Head of Copy at e2open.
Q: What’s your current role at e2open, and how long have you been with the company?
A: I’m the Head of Copy with the Brand Marketing/Creative Services team. I shape the external brand voice for e2open and work with the rest of the creative services team to deliver on our communications and marketing strategy. My three-year anniversary will be in January.
Q: What’s the most rewarding part about the work you do at e2open?
A: Creating stuff. The Brand Marketing/Creative Services team gets to use a combination of design, storytelling, and interactivity to help our brand stand out.
Q: What advice would you give to someone just starting in your field?
A: For your first couple of years, you’re going to be waiting patiently in the wings for an opportunity to prove yourself. Use that time to observe the veterans around the office who have 10-20 years of experience under their belt. How do they navigate office politics? How do they address negative feedback? How do they sell ideas or convince people to agree with them? You can learn a lot from watching their day-to-day interactions.
Q: What’s the biggest challenge you’ve overcome in your career?
A: Me. I have the attention span of a fruit fly, so I have to work very hard to stay focused.
Q: How do you foster collaboration in a remote or hybrid environment?
A: We are a small team, so we spend a lot of time chatting with or calling each other on Teams. Without an actual watercooler, you have to be purposeful about opening lines of communication.
Q: What’s one thing people might be surprised to learn about you?
A: I’m a doodler. I love drawing funny, cartoonish stuff in my spare time. I also scrawl all over any paper surface I can get my hands on – mail, healthcare invoices, my daughter’s homework. I’m like a small-scale graffiti artist.
Q: Who has been the biggest influence on your career and why?
A: Sometime in the late 80s/early 90s, I saw a TV documentary about a Madison Avenue ad agency that was pitching an ice cream brand. The agency looked like a fun place to work, but what really stuck out to me was a scene with all these cool copywriters in a boardroom with their sleeves rolled up, cigarettes jutting out of their mouths, joking around and throwing out ideas and sketching on big pads of paper. Their energy was infectious. I’d never really felt like I fit into any of the traditional career paths, so the idea that there were opportunities out there for creative people piqued my interest.
Q: How do you like to recharge after a busy day?
A: Making my wife and daughter laugh. If there were such a thing as standup comedy clubs for toddlers or little kids, I would absolutely slay.
Q: If you could have lunch with any historical or famous figure, who would it be and why?
A: Werner Herzog because he’s insane and unpredictable and I bet it’d be a lot of fun to spend an hour with him (even though he’d probably spend most of that time making fun of me).
Q: If you could wave a magic wand and instantly master any skill, what would it be?
A: DIY. I’m dreadful at it. I’ve since learned to just hire sweaty contractors.
